Our Instructors have spent many years devoted to training in the martial arts and have attained a certain level of expertise to qualify them as teachers and also mentors.

Through extensive testing, certification and tournament level competition, our staff has attained mastery in this martial art and now enjoy sharing their skill and passing it on to their students. Here are a few of Ernie Reyes' World Martial Arts's instructors and other staff members, starting with Dan Haney:

Dan Haney  (5th degree Black Belt)  Dan Haney is a 5th degree black belt Master under, Hall of Fame member and Movie actor, Master Ernie Reyes Sr. Master Haney has been teaching in the Hillsboro, Oregon area for over 21 years and has been a black belt since 1989. Dan Haney’s martial art background – The quick version! Dan Haney started martial arts in June of 1986. He began teaching martial arts at the age of 15, when he was a gold belt, because he was his instructor’s first student and the school needed help. His favorite training activity was sparring and he soon developed in to a championship fighter. Dan received his 1st black belt at the age of 17. The main reason why Dan wanted to open up his own martial arts studio is because he had seen & experienced many different instructors teach it the wrong way. Frustrated with this, he opened his own martial arts school in 1991 with partner & long time friend Mark Gajdostik. In 1992 Dan founded Haney Martial Arts and started teaching and training in mixed martial arts; Tae kwon-do, Ju-Jitsu & weapons. In the summer of 1999, Dan’s former instructor introduced him to (Hall of Fame member) Master Ernie Reyes Sr., the founder of creative Karate. Dan instantly fell in love with the Ernie Reyes’ World West Coast Association, staff, & team of professional master instructors and joined the association. Gwen Haney  (3rd degree Black Belt)  Gwen is an instructor for "school talks", self defense classes, and introductory lessons. Gwen tested for her 3rd degree black belt in May 2008. She loves spending time with 6 year old son Xander and husband (KJN. Dan). Gwen is the operations manager, and oversees all customer service & pro-shop sales. Zach Dunn  (3rd Degree Black Belt)  Sabum-nim Zach Dunn is a 3rd degree black belt Chief instructor. Zach also recieved his 2nd degree black belt under GM Cacoy Canete Doce Pares (Filipino Stick fighting) on July 17th, 2005. In his spare time, Zach enjoys spending time with his wife, Emily, who recently earned a Best Tester award at her Black Belt test October 2007. Shelly Binoeder  (Programs Director)  Shelly is our programs dirctor. Her whole family is training at our martial arts school. Her youngest son, Nathan is a black belt candidate. Her Oldest son, Kurt just recieved his 1st degree black belt and is on our SWAT leadership program. Her Husband Steve is a black belt in our Eskrima program. Shelly is currently training in our Eskrima program as well. You can see Shelly on Saturday mornings working the front desk!

Shawna "Flair" Flaherty  (3rd degree Black Belt)  When I first started martial arts I just wanted something to do and I had no plans or goals of any kind. I stayed in martial arts because I had found a family. I never thought I'd see myself as a black belt. Then I went on my first trip to Santa Clara California to black belt testing. I was fired up! After that, nothing could stop me! Now I am a Head instructor of the Lil' Dragons program, and a 3rd degree black belt (May 2008).

Chelsea Price  (3rd degree Black Belt) Chelsea is the highest ranking female student in the school and has been training under Dan Haney since she was 9 years old. She is an Assistant instructor and recently won an award at our Martial Arts Spectacular for her leadership. Chelsea was a "straight A" student at Jefferson High school in Portland (enrolled in the medical program) and was awarded numerous scholarships to University of Portland!

Andy Herinckx  (3rd degree Black Belt) Andy is an instructor in our Kick-Nastics program. He is also a senior member of the famous "Oregon Action Team" and recently won an award for his leadership! Andy tested for his 3rd degree Black Belt in May of 2008! Andy is one of the best "trickers" in the NorthWest! You can see Andy perform at the "Martial Arts Spectacular" this spring!
