Our Programs & Classes
Students and enthusiasts of Tang Soo Do have many reasons for their interest in this and other martial art styles. Some are drawn to the physical fitness and weight-loss aspects of training. Others seek to add discipline and self control to their lives. While still others are concerned about safety and self-defense.
Whether you are interested in our programs for mental or physical well being, Yi's Karate Institute of Atco offers a number of programs that will fit your developmental needs and your busy schedule as well.
Tang Soo Do
Ours is a traditional style focusing on honor, integrity and discipline. We strive to instill honorable values in our students so that they may be as prepared as possible for nature's constant changes. We challenge students to try their best both physically and mentally. We do not emphasize any one component of the art (such as fighting), but all areas are emphasized to assure balance of mind, body, and spirit.
Our ultimate objectives are: - Self-defense
- Health- we promote our physical and mental health
- Self-improvement- we strive to improve character by instilling confidence and discipline through our training program.
Our expectations are high for all our students, but we understand improvement comes through the student's effort, one step at a time. Instructors show the way and motivate the student when required, but ultimately all the students must earn their way through the ranks, for it is the journey towards the goal that is most important. Integrity, honor, respect, discipline and responsibility are products of this effort.

TaiChi
Tai Chi Chuan is an extremely effective Chinese martial art, but is probably best known today for its phenomenal health benefits. Tai Chi's gentle, flowing motions are simple and natural, making the practice of Tai Chi a safe and healthful exercise. The practice of Tai Chi is very low impact making it a perfect discipline for both men and women of all ages. Tai Chi practice involves intense concentration on your immediate activity with an emphasis on complete relaxation. This combination of the mind being focused on the body’s soft, fluid movements is one reason tai chi is often referred to as "meditation in motion”.
TaiChi classes are offered on a drop-in basis and are open to all. The focus is primarily on the Yang Style Long Form, but is supplemented by study of QiGong. There is no testing or belt/sash program for Tai Chi at Yi's.
